The University of Strathclyde, Glasgow, has introduced a new MSc Sustainability Innovation Leadership programme, aimed at preparing future leaders to address environmental and social challenges. This one-year, full-time course, starting in September 2025, combines sustainability, innovation, and leadership across various industries. To help students understand the course details, application process, career prospects, and financial aid options, a webinar will be held on March 12 at 10:00 GMT.
To help skilled students from around the world, the university is providing a £5,000 scholarship for international students who are paying their own fees (non-EU). The scholarship will be directly deducted from tuition fees, reducing the financial burden for students passionate about sustainability. The programme welcomes students from different academic backgrounds, including business, management, engineering, design, and architecture.
It is designed for individuals eager to drive change in sustainability. The course will provide interdisciplinary knowledge, innovation skills, and the ability to assess and respond to complex environmental and social issues. Graduates will be trained to lead sustainability initiatives across industries such as business, engineering, and design.
Students will develop a broad and forward-thinking perspective on sustainability. The curriculum integrates environmental science, social innovation, creative design thinking, and indigenous perspectives. Through academic learning, practical application, peer collaboration, and personal reflection, students will gain leadership skills applicable to business, technology, science, public policy, and community development.
Professor Sonja Oliveira, the programme leader, highlighted that sustainability leadership requires new skills and creative thinking beyond traditional disciplines. The MSc Sustainability Innovation Leadership course combines business, engineering, and design to equip students with the ability to tackle climate change and global uncertainties. The curriculum includes modules on social entrepreneurship, design thinking, circular economy, air quality, and energy and water policies.
Business students will focus on managing uncertainty and innovation, designers will enhance leadership in complex situations, and engineers will develop skills to drive sustainable transformation. Applicants must hold a first-class or upper second-class honours degree (or international equivalent) in engineering, business, management, architecture, or design. The tuition fee for international students for the 2025/26 academic year is £30,250.
With sustainability leadership being a crucial global priority, this programme offers a unique learning experience to prepare graduates for impactful careers in sustainability.
