ISLAMABAD - Geneva-based UN Human Rights Council yesterday adopted the OIC resolution, presented by Pakistan’s Permanent Envoy to UN, titled “Human rights situation in the Occupied Palestinian Territory including East Jerusalem, and the Obligation to ensure accountability and Justice” with a majority of vote in favour. The HRC resolution emphasised the need to prevent and punish incitement to genocide in Gaza. The resolution called for enhanced focus on ICJ’s ruling on the illegality of Israel’s occupation in occupied Palestinian territories.

The resolution condemned Israel’s illegal actions against Palestinians, including sexual violence against women and girls. The resolution called for ending impunity and instituting accountability for grave breaches of international law in Palestine. The OIC group expresses gratitude to those states which supported the resolution.
