Under strength Lairds lose heavily at Market Drayton

Lairds travelled to Market Drayton Town with a depleted squad due to cry-offs and unavailability of players and put on a sterling performance before losing out to a late two goal flourish in injury time.

Ben Graham yet again played with authority but Town exposed slack marking to take a two goal lead before the break as the impressive Raul Bisong netted twice in ten minutes with efforts in the 25th and 35th minutes. A spirited fightback in the second period saw Jamie Leyland reduce the arrears in the 53rd minute with a fine finish before Joel Whalley was unlucky with an effort against the post and then having a goal disallowed for offside as Lairds fought to level matters. But with injuries reducing them to ten men and having Tom Davies playing on with an injury, Lairds tired and were punished in time added on as Joel Reece in the 91st minute and Ricardo Gordon in the 96th minute inflicted an unjust 4-1 defeat on a gallant Lairds team who battled well throughout.

The final game of the season sees Lairds at home versus Foley Meir next Saturday, April 12 with a 3pm kick off. Lairds reserves retained third place in the West Cheshire League second division following a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Maghull Reserves as Adam Bagley netted a fine brace of goals as they chase second place in the remaining fixtures, with their next game being at home on Wednesday 9th April versus Mossley Hill Athletic U-23's with a 7.00pm kick off.
