THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Harikumar, the uncle of the two-and-a-half-year-old girl in Balaramapuram, has confessed of killing his niece. He said that he committed the murder alone. However, the police have not fully believed this.
The police suspect that he is trying to protect someone. The police are examining whether the child’s mother Shreethu has any role. The reason for the child's murder is yet to be clarified.
It is suspected that the child was thrown into the well alive. He had not cooperated with the police since the beginning of the investigation. He told police to investigate and find out.
The locals had said that the family was involved in witchcraft. The police suspect Harikumar to be a mentally disturbed person. The child's father, mother and grandmother are being questioned.
There are contradictions in their statements. The child's grandmother's statement led the police to suspect Harikumar. The police may take steps including the arrest of Harikumar soon.
After the child was reported missing, the bed in Harikumar's room was found burnt. When asked why the bed burnt, he did not answer. The inquest report said that there were no injuries on the child's body.
There were no signs of force. The cause of death will be clear only after the postmortem report. The family owe lakhs to many.
The child's mother and her mother borrowed all the money. However, the police clarified that there was no attempt of mass suicide. The dead is Devendu, daughter of Shreethu and Sreejith of Kottukalkonam.
The child, who slept with his parents at home last night, was found missing this morning. A search was launched by the family, but the body was later found in a well. The family lives in a rented house.
