Unbeaten Clarets surge to the summit after 12th successive league win

A dynamic dozen wins has propelled unbeaten Deeping Rangers Ladies to the top of the table. The Clarets hit top spot on Sunday after a 3-2 away success at Cambourne Town for their 12th successive victory of the Alan Boswell Group Cambridgeshire League Division Two campaign. They had to come back after conceding two early goals to their Cambridgeshire hosts before strikes from Yasmin Green, Catherine Hobday and Ali Stokoe sent Deeping to the summit of the table.

They are now three points clear of second-placed South Lincolnshire Swifts Ladies having played three fewer games than their Fosdyke-based title rivals. It is Deeping's second season as a team after forming last term and finishing fourth in the South Division of the Quickline Lincolnshire League. Their success after moving leagues for the coming campaign is the latest stage in the development for manager Steve Devonport and his players.



Devonport said: "It's been a brilliant season so far because it's been a constant learning curve. "We are developing new things every week and finding new ways of trying to out-fox the opposition. "We're definitely where we want to be at this stage of the season and we'd have taken that in pre-season but I want to keep developing the football and how we play.

"We're not going to learn anything by just scoring lots of goals each week. We have to put passages of play in and work on things. "The girls had a brief at the beginning of things on what we wanted to do and we're ticking each of them off as we complete them.

"We'd had some great feedback from people who are watching us but we've just got to focus on ourselves now. We've put ourselves into a great position but we've got to keep working hard." The success on Sunday came after a midweek win at Histon Ladies Development last Wednesday night where Rangers returned with a 2-1 victory.

Green and Hobday were again on target for Deeping who have scored 51 goals in their 12 victories while conceding just a dozen. Green has 19 goals this season and is the sixth highest scorer in the division with South Lincs' Cody Webb second after netting 35 times. Deeping's next match is away on Sunday at Willingham Wolves Ladies before they travel to South Lincs the following weekend (April 13) for a table-topping clash.
