Facebook Twitter WhatsApp SMS Email Print Copy article link Save After game one of Friday’s Sun Belt Conference opener got away from UL, the Ragin’ Cajuns rebounded in style with a 7-1 win over Marshall in the nightcap at Dottie Hicks Field in Huntington, West Virginia. In the first game, the Cajuns overcame an early three-run deficit to take a 5-4 lead into the bottom of the sixth.
After reliever Sam Ryan got the first out, the Thundering Herd rallied for two runs on doubles from Haleigh Adkins, Brooklyn Ulrich and Rielly Lucas for the 6-5 victory. It was Lucas also responsible for Marshall’s early lead as well with a three-run home run in the first inning off UL starter Tyra Clary. Clary only lasted two innings, allowing four runs on three hits, four walks and one strikeout.
Before the three doubles, Ryan pitched well, only yielding two runs on five hits, one walk and no strikeouts in 3.1 innings. The Cajuns rallied for three runs in the third and then scored two more in the fourth.
Sam Roe had a big first game, first with a two-run double to tie the game in the third after Cecilia Vasquez’s botched grounder to second. In the fourth, Mia Liscano singled, stole two bases and scored on a throwing error. Roe followed with an RBI single for the 5-4 lead.
Bethaney Noble (3-5) made sure there wasn’t any drama in the second game. She had a two-hit shutout going until giving up a two-out solo homer in the bottom of the seventh. She finished allowing one run on four hits, three walks and striking out five.
She got plenty of run support with two runs in the first, a single tally in the third and two more in the fifth. Vasquez got things going with a two-run homer in the first. In the third, Vasquez reached on an error and later scored on a wild pitch.
In the fifth, Savannah White put the Cajuns on easy street with a two-run homer in the fifth. White added an RBI single in the sixth. UL outhit Marshall 12-4 in game two.
