The UK's balmy mini-heatwave could soon come to an abrupt end as an Arctic storm is gearing up to smash into the country very soon.

The UK is experiencing a much-needed burst of warm weather, with temperatures soaring to 23.7C on Friday—the hottest day of the year so far. However, one part of the UK could see the warmer conditions abruptly end in April.

Weather forecasters expect this balmy warm spell to soon come to a rather chilly end, with BBC Weather suggesting "air masses of Arctic origin" will sweep in "cooler or colder conditions" later this month. WXCHARTS weather maps have turned purple for certain UK areas indicating that snow is on its way. Weather maps predict that at midnight on Monday, April 14, a band of snow will hit parts of Scotland.

Up to 3cm of snow could fall in the worst-hit areas. In the county of Highland, maps show snow covering the northeast coast. Areas impacted include Lochcarron and Gairloch.

By 6am the snow looks set to blanket the Scottish Highlands whilst large parts of Scotland will be drenched by heavy downpours of rain. The North West of England will see the worst of the rain with up to 3mm forecast per hour. And the snow shows no sign of stopping there.

At Midnight on April 15 the snow is forecast to move into central Scotland while a small part of northern England could also see 1cm of snowfall per hour. Elsewhere the East Midlands and the North West look set to be hammered with rain with Manchester predicted to see 4mm of rain every hour. Seperately, in the Met Office 's weather outlook for this period the forecaster is warning that there will be a a "gradual change to a more unsettled weather" with "Atlantic frontal systems from the west or showers from the south making inroads across the UK".

"This is expected to herald a wetter period through the middle of April with showers or longer spells of rain at times, which could be heavy and thundery in places. Strong winds could develop in some areas, particularly the south and west. Temperatures are likely to return closer to normal".
