UDAAN scheme to continue for 10 more years: Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu

Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu announced the extension of the UDAN scheme for ten more years, aiming to enhance regional air connectivity. The scheme has already benefitted over 1.4 crore passengers and operated 2.8 lakh flights. The government plans to develop 350-400 airports in the next 20-25 years, making air travel more accessible and affordable.

Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu on Monday said that the government would continue its flagship regional air connectivity program Udega Desh ka Aam Nagrik (UDAAN) for ten more years. He said that the scheme had benefitted more than 1.4 crore passengers and 2.

8 lakh flights had been operated under the scheme. He added that 583 routes operated because of the scheme and, 157 airports were currently operational throughout the country. "UDAN has democratised India's aviation sector ," said the minister.



He said that the aim of the government is to enhance regional connectivity , ease of doing business and create a harmony in the aviation sector that would provide for enhanced regional growth. "The idea is to take off from the remotest corner of the nation and land in the most backward areas of this country," said Naidu, adding that the Ministry of Civil Aviation had an ambition to connect every region of the country with air travel. "We want to develop 350-400 airports in the next 20-25 years.

Vision is to extend UDAN scheme for 10 more years. We will include even the minor suggestions to make the scheme better. We will make air travelling cheaper," said the minister.

Further, he said that the he wanted India to become a global aviation hub. This was possible with the growing number of metropolitan cities, he commented. "India is a strategically positioned location.
