UAW President Shawn Fain during a livestream on Tuesday night. The United Auto Workers union on Tuesday night said it may go on strike against Stellantis, alleging the automaker is not fulfilling terms of a 2023 labor accord. “Stellantis wants everyone to believe they simply can’t keep their commitments to American autoworkers,” UAW President Shawn Fain said during a livestream .

“Stellantis is one of the most profitable automakers in the world...

Stellantis is rolling in the dough.” A year ago, the Detroit-based union went on strike against Stellantis, General Motors Co., and Ford Motor Co.

The UAW targeted key factories that produce the bulk of profits at the automakers. New contracts at the automakers were ratified in November . The accords called for a 25% boost in wages and the return of cost-of-living adjustments as well as job commitments for future electric vehicle projects, among other gains for union members.

The contracts run through the end of April 2028. At Stellantis, the UAW contract called for reopening a factory at Belvidere, Illinois. That reopening hasn’t occurred yet.

The union also accuses Stellantis of wanting to shift production of the Dodge Durango from Michigan to Canada. “We’re damn sure not going to turn around and let Stellantis violate our agreement,” Fain said. “This is binding.

..The company is planning to violate this agreement.

” “We all, every plant, are at risk if the company can violate these agreements,” the UAW chief added. The union has filed grievances at 28 Stellantis local unions, Fain said. The UAW president said the union will convene its Stellantis council and will be conducting strike authorization votes.

The automaker is “determined to beat down the UAW,” Fain added. “We will not let them.” ‘Diddy’ Arrest: 50 Cent, Charlamagne Tha God And Other Celebrities React Édgar Barrera, Karol G, Bad Bunny Lead Latin Grammys 2024 Nominations Apple’s Update Decision—Bad News Confirmed For Millions Of iPhone Users Stellantis, in a statement, said: “Our focus remains on offering consumers affordable multi-energy vehicles while ensuring our future sustainability, which are necessary to protect U.

” The automaker added: “A strike does not benefit anyone – our customers, our dealers, the community and, most importantly, our employees." “And to be clear, Shawn Fain’s claim that the company has confirmed plans for the Dodge Durango is simply not true,” the Stellantis statement added. “The company has confirmed no such thing.

” Last week, Stellantis, which includes the former Chrysler Corp., said it will spend more than $406 million at three Michigan plants to build electric vehicles and battery parts. The European-based automaker said in a statement the investments will take place at its Sterling Heights Assembly Plant, Warren Truck Assembly Plant, and Dundee Engine Plant.

The UAW is trying to build on the contracts it reached last year with GM, Ford, and Stellantis. Workers at Volkswagen AG’s Tennessee plant agreed to be represented by the UAW and are starting negotiations for a union contract . The union wants to organize non-union auto plants in the U.
