Two-day LHSAA meeting begins Tuesday. Broadmoor among schools with an appeal

The first day is scheduled to begin with an introduction of new committee members followed by a series of reports, including a financial report. Wednesday’s session is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m.

m. for numerous schools. All appeals are conducted in executive session and schools do not receive the decision on the appeal until later in the week.

Broadmoor and Ellender are among the schools scheduled to appeal sanctions. The two schools were involved in a benches clearing fight that ended a Week 1 game at Broadmoor with seconds remaining. Ellender won 14-0.

“I have no problem with the penalties,” Broadmoor principal Robert Wells Jr. said. “We did impose our own penalties for our players.

We had some questions during the process. “Hopefully we can get those questions answered during the appeal and discuss them.” LHSAA executive director Eddie Bonine noted that the LHSAA’s penalty rulings are an administrative process, which is different than a formal legal proceeding.

“I issue a ruling based on our investigation,” Bonine said. “Once the ruling is received, schools can appeal. Both schools are appealing.

” Setting the agenda for the LHSAA’s January convention is a key item on the executive committee’s Wednesday meeting. A handbook committee discussion and a legal report also are planned..
