Two teenagers have been arrested in connection to a suspected assault in a midlands town at the weekend that left a young father fighting for his life in hospital.

Two teenagers have been arrested in connection to a suspected assault in a midlands town at the weekend that left a young father fighting for his life in hospital. The two 17-year-olds were arrested by detectives in Mullingar this morning following an incident along the town’s Grove Street area during the early hours of Saturday morning. The two, both males aged 17 years, are currently detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984 at a Garda Station in the Midlands,” said a garda spokesperson. Read more The injured man, who is originally from Longford and a young father, was found critically injured and unconscious on the ground before being rushed to Mullingar’s Midland Regional Hospital for treatment. He has since been transferred to Beaumont Hospital in Dublin where he remains in a critical condition.



Follow Independent Longford on Facebook The scene itself, has been thoroughly examined by garda forensic specialists in a bid to shed further light on the circumstances behind the incident. A key element of that will be CCTV which detectives have managed to procure from the area and are painstakingly reviewing in an attempt to identify a person of interest in the case. An incident room has been set up with gardaí still anxious to speak to anyone who may have been in or around the Grove Street area of the town between 12:30am and 1:30am on Saturday morning to come forward.
