TWO people have been placed in emergency accommodation following a reported fire in Leigh. Shortly after 10am on Tuesday, April 8, fire crews rushed to reports of a fire along Hope Street in Leigh. Footage on social media has shown thick smoke coming from the property , and it is understood that the occupants have been evacuated.
No injuries have been reported and Wigan Council has arranged for the occupants to be placed in emergency accommodation. READ > Inquest to resume into teen's motorbike death after criminal charges not pursued A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) said: “At around 10.10am this morning (Tuesday 8 April), three fire engines from Bolton Central, Farnworth and Leigh fire stations attended a house fire on Hope Street, Leigh.
“Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus arrived quickly and used one hose reel to extinguish the fire. Crews were in attendance for roughly one hour and 40 minutes." This incident follows a separate fire at a property along Westleigh Lane on Sunday, April 6, while the Slag Lane household waste recycling centre in Lowton was also closed yesterday (Monday, April 7) following a reported blaze.
