GEORGE TOWN: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has obtained a six-day remand order against two members of the police motorcycle patrol unit (URB). They are suspected of soliciting and accepting a bribe from two men linked to a drug trafficking case in Bayan Lepas. Magistrate Siti Nurul Suhaila Baharin issued the remand order, effective until April 25, following a request by MACC earlier today.
Sources said the suspects allegedly demanded RM1,500 from two men who had been apprehended by residents at a condominium in Bayan Lepas for suspected drug distribution. "On the way to the office for questioning, one of the suspects allegedly repeated the demand for RM1,500 in exchange for not taking further action. "One of the men transferred RM200 via an e-wallet app to the officer's account.
"The officer also requested that one of their motorcycles be left as collateral for the remaining RM1,300." The source added that one of the men later lodged a report at the Penang MACC office, resulting in the arrest of both suspects last night. Penang MACC director Datuk Mohd Fuad Bee Basrah confirmed the arrests.
