The Hammers were one place and two points above their visitors coming into the game and they led at halftime, but Vics goals in the 84th and 89th minutes saw them take all three points. The first half was fairly even, and Neemo Nixon saw the first real chance of the game tipped over the bar by Vics keeper Fraser Law. Not long after Hammers keeper Harvey Bartlett was in action after a powerful effort from Elliot Wheeler.

It was something special from Micky Hubbard to open the scoring and give Hamworthy the lead on 35 minutes, as, 50 yards from goal, he stepped up to a free kick and caught Law unprepared and off his line to find the back of the net. Chances came for both sides at the end of the first half, but neither team could find the net, with both keepers in good form to keep the game at 1-0 at the break. The Vics took control of the game in the second period, though.

The hosts kept them at bay for much of the half but the equaliser was coming and was duly scored after 84 minutes. Zak Sullivan’s pinpoint cross gave Raff Boyd-Kerr a free header and he finished to level the game. They should have immediately scored their second goal but Jacob Reynolds turned a cross over the bar.

But it was heartbreak in the final minute of the 90 for the Hammers, as Bartlett, who had been brilliant to that point, diverted Sullivan’s corner into his own net at the far post. East Cowes held onto their advantage comfortably to leapfrog their hosts in the table, a deserved win after a dominant second half performance from the visitors..
