Patna: Two persons were killed and another was injured in a firing incident between two families over an old land dispute at Hemanpur village under Mohhiudinagar police station in Samastipur district around midnight on Saturday. The deceased were identified as Naveen Singh (50), son of Tapeshwar Singh, and Gaurav Singh (35), son of Ajay Kumar Singh. The injured, Saurabh Singh, son of Ajay Singh, was referred to Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH) after primary treatment at the Samastipur sadar hospital.
Samastipur SP, Ashok Mishra, said, "There was a long-standing land dispute between the families of Tapeshwar Singh and Ajay Singh. The two deceased were grandfather and grandson in relation, and also neighbours. Complaints have been filed from both sides.
The police are investigating the case from all angles." According to police, a party was organised at Gaurav Singh's place to celebrate the birthday of his nephew on Saturday night. Naveen was returning home after purchasing medicines around 11.
30pm, when Gaurav, along with his associates, attacked him. After that, Naveen ran inside his house and started shouting for help. But Gaurav and his men caught him and started beating him.
Meanwhile, both families took out weapons and started firing at each other in which Gaurav was also killed. "On being informed, the police forces from Mohhiuddinagar, Mohanpur, and Patori police stations reached the village, and are camping in there. Saurabh's statement has been recorded by the police at PMCH.
Both families are also fighting court cases related to the land for the last three years. Further action is being taken in the matter to arrest the persons involved in the firing," said Patori SDPO, B K Medhavi.
