Prayagraj: Two persons were beaten to death while one sustained injury in a clash between two groups during a wedding ceremony in Chakodia village of Pratapgarh district late on Saturday. Police have detained nine persons after lodging an FIR under appropriate sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The deceased, Pawandeep Singh (22) and Indrapreet Singh alias Jot (32), were residents of Sultanpur in UP and Jalandhar in Punjab, respectively.

Vishal, a 25-year-old man from Jalandhar, who sustained injury in the clash, was admitted to Pratapgarh district hospital. Lalganj police said that the marriage procession of Manoj Kumar reached Chakodia from Leelapur on Saturday night. As the marriage procession reached the bride's house, two groups of ‘baraatis' had an argument over playing songs on the DJ.

Both the groups were in an inebriated state, police said. In the meantime, members of one group accused the other of snatching a gold chain and money from one of the ‘baraati'. Before others could understand the gravity of the situation and intervene, both the groups clashed.

"Three persons, Pawandeep, Indrajeet and Vishal, sustained grievous injuries in the incident. They were taken to the hospital where Pawandeep and Indrajeet were pronounced dead," a police officer said, adding that further investigations were on in the case..
