WAYANAD: Two people have been arrested in the incident of dragging an adivasi youth along the road at Koodal Kadavu in Mananthavady. The Mananthavady police took Harshid and Abhiram into custody. Two other accused Vishnu and Nabeel, are still on the run.
The police have intensified search for them. The police had also conducted searches at the houses of their relatives and friends late last night. Harshid and Abhiram were taken into custody by the police while they were travelling in a bus.
They were coming to Kalpetta in a Bengaluru bus. The police have registered a murder attempt case against the accused. The car in which the youths dragged Mathan along the road was found by the police from Kaniyampatta yesterday itself.
The Celerio car, KL 52H8733, is presently in Mananthavady station. The adivasi youth Mathan was dragged along the road at Koodal Kadavu in Mananthavady the other day. The tourists held his hand and drove the car for about half a kilometre.
The tourists, who came to visit the Koodal Kadavu check dam, entered into a verbal argument with another car passengers. The locals intervened and this later turned violent. When they started attacking a local teacher with stones, Mathan stopped them.
When Mathan’s hands got stuck in the car, they dragged him along the tarred road for about half a kilometre. When passengers of a car behind created a ruckus, Mathan was pushed onto the road. Mathan, who suffered serious injuries on his hands and legs, has been admitted to Mananthavady Hospital.
