Police were still searching yesterday for a third suspect in the robberies.
Jodee Roulette, 18, and a 16-year-old male were found inside the Sandy Bay residence and charged with multiple crimes. Stolen items were recovered by police on scene, including an all-terrain vehicle and a pickup truck, according to a Friday news release from RCMP. RCMP are searching for James Roulette of Sandy Bay Ojibway First Nation in connection with break-ins near MacGregor early Sunday morning.
(Submitted) “Since the very first call, our officers have not stopped looking for the people responsible for these brazen thefts carried out with firearms,” Staff Sgt. Marcus Paddock said in the release. “The investigation involved dozens of officers and quickly led to the execution of a search warrant and the arrest of two individuals as well as the recovery of stolen items.
We will continue our work until the final suspect is safely arrested.” An arrest warrant has been issued for 20-year-old James Allan Roulette. Police believe he may be on the First Nation or in Winnipeg.
The three incidents happened in the Rural Municipality of North Norfolk early Sunday morning. The suspects gained access to shops on the properties and stole all-terrain vehicles, power tools and a pickup truck. Surveillance footage posted on social media by a property owner showed suspects jumping out of a truck at around 3:40 a.
m. with firearms, pointing the weapons at a home on the property and running to nearby buildings. Manitoba First Nations Police Service put out a statement this week saying that while being pursued by police that night, the suspects attempted to “box” in the RCMP vehicle and run it off the road near Langruth.
A 17-year-old girl was arrested within hours when police found her inside a stolen truck. She was charged with unauthorized possession of a firearm, flight from a peace officer and dangerous operation of a vehicle. The youth was released with numerous conditions by the courts, according to the Thursday statement from MFNPS.
The Sun spoke with two MacGregor residents on Monday who described damage done to their properties. Dean Toews provided video footage showing a suspect handing a scoped rifle to another person before they both climbed onto his all-terrain vehicle and drove it in reverse out of the barn. Upon searching his property, he later found that his truck’s tire had been slashed.
Clint Sigurdson, another resident robbed that morning, told the Sun he had woken in the night and pursued the suspects to the outskirts of Sandy Bay Ojibway First Nation. He witnessed the suspects attempting to load an ATV onto a truck and he recovered tools that had been stolen from Toews’ property. While police search for Roulette, they advise the public that he may be armed and should not be approached.
