"Breast cancer doesn’t just affect patients; it has a huge impact on their families, friends and neighbours."

The annual event, organised by University Hospitals Dorset, will see participants dressed in neon clothes and glittery accessories walking or running along Bournemouth seafront on Friday, May 16. The 3km, 5km or 10km walk/run is intended to celebrate the strength of those affected by breast cancer, while raising funds for hospital services. More than 55,000 women and 400 men are diagnosed with breast cancer each year in the UK, equivalent to around one in seven women developing the disease in their lifetime.

Belinda Pearce, consultant breast surgeon at University Hospitals Dorset, said: "I witness the strength, courage and resilience of those facing breast cancer daily. "Breast cancer doesn’t just affect patients; it has a huge impact on their families, friends and neighbours." The event, sponsored by Barchester Healthcare and Prime Demolition Limited, aims to raise money and awareness for those affected by breast cancer and other female cancers.

Michelle Venn, home services advisor for Barchester’s Parley Place care home, said: "Raising money and awareness for all those affected by breast cancer and other female cancers in our region is a cause very close to all our hearts.".
