TVNZ abandons plan to axe its 1News website

The state broadcaster had planned to close the website from February as part of its plans to save $30 million.

TVNZ has walked back on its proposal to axe its 1News website as part of its efforts to recover $30 million in savings and revenue. The state broadcaster announced earlier this month that it will be closing the website in February next year. On Tuesday, a TVNZ spokesperson confirmed it wouldretain a reduced version of the 1News website, as it workws to build audiences for TVNZ plus.

The company said it would enter into the second stage of consultation with staff next week, which would include proposals for a restructure to help it reach its savings target. More to come..
