Ankara: Turkish motor production fell in the first quarter, led by a drop in vehicles used for transporting goods and people for business purposes. Total automotive output was 344,120 units in the three months through March, down 8.7% compared to the same period a year earlier, according to data emailed by the Automotive Manufacturers Association, known as OSD.

The drop in the commercial vehicle segment was 11%. Total vehicle exports eased by 0.9% between January and March in units, though they gained slightly in US dollar terms.

The drop in first quarter output follows an annual decline last year, when motor vehicle production fell 7%. In 2023, the country produced 1.5 million motor vehicles, making it the 13th largest producer in the world at the time.
