TULSA, Okla. — One of the last two living Tulsa Race Massacre survivors, Lessie Benningfield Randle who is often called Mother Randle, celebrated her 110th birthday surrounded by family and friends. "I feel just like being 105," shared Mother Randall.
"I feel just fine...
I think I'm doing real well at my age, I really do." With the aid of her relative asking her questions, Mother Randle shared some advice and spoke about her favorite things in life. "I love dominos," said Mother Randall.
She also shared her favorite pies were sweet potato and lemon. When asked what she would want to say to younger generations, Mother Randle gave some advice for parents. "There's more than one way to discipline a child.
There's one way you can discipline a child that will harm him and then there's another way that will help the child. Now, I always tried to help mine. When you say discipline, sometimes you got one parent, sometimes you got two, because a lot of times you've lost one parent.
They just got one parent to deal with, now that's a hard one. That's a hard one, but you can do it, you can do it but you got to put your soul in it, your whole soul, your mind." Mother Randle had a simple saying when it came to explaining her secret to living such a long life.
"That's my secret, hard work and clean living," said Mother Randle. She shared another piece of advice on what she believes is the best and most fulfilling way to live. "Well, in my day, it was a little different.
Right now, do what the Bible says as much as you can and God knows your limitation, but do what you can as much as you can and let Him know that you love Him and you're trying to do as much as you can. He knows." Alongside family members and friends, Mayor-Elect Monroe Nichols also spoke at the event in honor of Mother Randle.
