B arbados’ top female surfer Chelsea Tuach finished fifth at the just-concluded 2025 World Surf League (WSL) North American Qualifying Series held at Jack’s Surf Pro in Huntington Beach, California. Competing in the WSL 4000-rated event, Tuach showed her experience and competitive edge, having previously won the inaugural edition of the tournament but bowed out on this occasion with a top-five placement. Despite the unpredictable two-to-four-foot surf and breezy conditions, Tuach looked very comfortable throughout the early rounds, banking on her international experience at this level.

In her quarterfinal heat against California hometown surfer Bailey Turner, Tuach opened with a solid 5.
83 score on her second wave and held priority while waiting for a better opportunity. Unfortunately, the ideal back-up wave never materialized, allowing Turner to seize the advantage with smaller inside rides and advance. Reflecting on her performance, Tuach, one of the best female surfers in the region, said, “I’m happy with how I surfed and thankful to make it to finals day.
I wish I had more chances in my heat, but that’s just how surfing goes. This is a positive start to the season, and I’m motivated to keep training and pushing toward big results this year.” Next on her calendar is the Pan American Surfing Games in Guatemala this July, where Tuach aims to upgrade her past medal performances, two silvers and a copper, to a coveted gold.
