President-elect Donald Trump announced on Tuesday that he has nominated Mehmet Oz, a former television talk show host and one-time U.S. Senate candidate, as the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services administrator.
In his statement, Trump cited Oz's extensive medical background. “America is facing a Healthcare Crisis, and there may be no Physician more qualified and capable than Dr. Oz to Make America Healthy Again,” Trump said in a statement.
“He is an eminent Physician, Heart Surgeon, Inventor, and World-Class Communicator, who has been at the forefront of healthy living for decades. " "Dr. Oz will work closely with Robert F.
Kennedy Jr. to take on the illness industrial complex, and all the horrible chronic diseases left in its wake," Trump continued. “Our broken Healthcare System harms everyday Americans, and crushes our Country’s budget.

” According to Trump, “I have known Dr. Oz for many years, and I am confident he will fight to ensure everyone in America receives the best possible Healthcare, so our Country can be Great and Healthy Again!” It was reported by CNBC that CMS operates or oversees programs that provide health coverage to about 1 out of every 2 Americans as well as Medicare, Medicaid, the Children’s Health Insurance Program, and the Obamacare marketplace exchange Healthcare.gov.
The outlet reported that the four programs reportedly account for $1.6 trillion in spending or nearly 25% of the entire federal budget. Should Oz be approved he would be reporting to vaccine skeptic and conspiracy theorist Robert F.
Kennedy Jr. who was nominated by Trump last week as Secretary of Health and Human Services. Oz rose to fame as a frequent guest of Oprah Winfrey before launching his own daytime talkshow in 2009, which won several daytime Emmy awards and reached millions of viewers.
In 2022, the man became the Republican nominee for a U.S. Senate seat from Pennsylvania which he ended up losing to Democrat Sen.
John Fetterman. This is not the first time that Oz has served under the Trump administration. In 2018, Trump appointed Oz to the Presidential Council on Sports, Fitness and Nutrition, reappointing him to the position in 2020.
In the past, the man has advocated that everyone in America have insurance and that the government should provide health care coverage to Americans who cannot afford it. “It should be mandatory that everybody in America have healthcare coverage. If you can’t afford it, we have to give it to you,” Oz told The Seattle Times in 2009 .
"And then once everyone's in the system, we have to do a lot of things that are naturally doable by humans, and they have been doing in other countries already so we don't have to reinvent the wheel, to reduce the chance that you're going to be leading yourself into a lifetime of health despair by not addressing the chronic health issues you face."
