Surat: A labourer was killed and another severely injured on Monday morning, when they were run over by a truck while they slept on a grassy patch at a ground in the Dindoli area. Dhiraj Maurya (26) and Pankaj Kevat (19) had spread a mat on a patch of grass and gone to sleep after working on Sunday night. At about 7.
30am on Monday, a truck entered the ground and ran over them while reversing. Maurya was killed on the spot while Kevat is being treated at a hospital. While Maurya lived at Navagam in Dindoli, Kevat lived in Limbayat.
They were daily-wage labourers. They had decided to sleep on the ground as they were exhausted from work. Dindoli police registered an offence for causing death by negligence and endangering the lives of the public.
The accused truck driver is absconding, and teams have been formed to apprehend him..
