The CBI (Central Bureau of Investigation) on Friday got a nod from the Ministry of Home Affairs to prosecute former railway minister Lalu Prasad Yadav in land for job scam. The investigation agency had filed a conclusive chargesheet against Yadav and other accused in June this year. "During investigation, it has been found that the accused in conspiracy with the Railways officials and engaged persons as 'substitutes' in lieu of land either in their name or in the name of their close relatives.
This land was acquired at prices lower than the prevailing circle rate and much lower than the market rate," an official had said. The court had on February 28 granted bail to Prasad's wife and former Bihar chief minister Rabri Devi and their daughters Misa Bharti and Hema Yadav in the case. The CBI had alleged that several people were appointed to Group "D" positions in various zones of the Indian Railways from 2004 to 2009 in return for land parcels they sold at heavily discounted rates to the family members of Prasad, who was the railway minister in the UPA I government.
