Pune: The Airport police on Friday morning detained a minor boy (17) and arrested his friend (19), both residents of Lohegaon, and a search for their accomplice is on after the trio damaged nine vehicles, a jewellery store, a medical shop and a Chinese eatery in Lohegaon and Dhanori between 11.30pm and midnight on Thursday. The Chinese eatery owner, his son, and the medical store owner suffered minor injuries.
injured people were taken to a nearby hospital. They were discharged after primary treatment. The police said the suspects rode triple-seat on a motorcycle with billhooks.
They damaged five two-wheelers with their billhooks at Swami Samarthnagar in Lohegaon and then damaged an SUV, an autorickshaw and a motorcycle at Dhanori Jakatnaka. A local shopkeeper, Sandeep Adhav (35), lodged a complaint against the trio. The police registered a case of attempt to murder, riot and mischief against them.
The trio damaged the board of a jewellery store, the counters of a medical store, and tables and chairs in a Chinese eatery. They then threw stones at the Chinese eatery, injuring its owner and his son (15). The police said the detained minor boy and his accomplice were school dropouts and casual workers.
Sub-inspector Sachin Dhamne of the Airport police said, "The detained minor boy and his arrested friend are local residents. People of the area know them. The complainant gave their names and details to us, following which we nabbed them.
They informed us that there was no reason behind their act of vandalism. They do not have any rivalry or animosity with anyone in the area. They did it for fun," he said.
