(Image: InYourArea ) ECHO readers have issued tributes following the "heart-breaking" news of a man found dead near Southport railway station. Police were called to reports of a casualty on the tracks this morning, and the man pronounced dead at the scene.

Services between Southport and Wigan Wallgate were cancelled as emergency services dealt with the incident, and Sussex Road was also closed between Tithebarn Road and St Luke's Road. ‌ A British Transport Police spokesman said: "Officers were called to the area near Southport railway station just before 9am today (23 November) following reports of a casualty on the tracks. Paramedics also attended, and sadly a man was pronounced dead at the scene.



Enquiries are ongoing to establish the circumstances leading up to their death."
