A family and a community are in mourning, after the loss of a little girl who has passed following a brief stay in the Puffin Ward at Cork University Hospital, where she was being treated for cancer. In September, we reported on how the local community in Mahon and beyond had rallied to support the family of Nicole Tudor , 10 years old, as they faced the heartbreaking news of a terminal diagnosis. Nicole was raised by her father Nicolae, who took his daughter to the Crumlin Children’s Hospital after she took ill back in April.
It was there, after extensive tests, that doctors informed him of the shock diagnosis. Further tests confirmed the initial results and the family were then told that Nicole's cancer was terminal. Now her loving family have announced that the 10-year-old schoolgirl sadly passed away in hospital on Wednesday "after a long battle that she never gave up on".
Friends and family have shared their tributes to the brave primary school pupil, who has been remembered as 'a beautiful child' who was 'full of happiness'. "The most beautifully sweet little girl, it was an honour to have known," a family friend wrote in a tribute shared online. "Nicole was a beautiful child, always smiling.
Everyone loved her. Lit up the world with her beautiful spirit. May she rest in peace," added another.
Another mourner wrote, "Rest in peace, beautiful girl. Look after your dad. You were so strong and fought the best you could.
Sleep tight, angel." And another said: "Dear Nicole, I will miss seeing you always out walking with your daddy who you loved so much, you will be greatly missed in Mahon, my thoughts and prayers are with all who knew and loved you. You are no longer in pain.
Rest in peace angel." Nicole attended Scoil na Croise Naofa Primary School in Mahon, with one of her former teachers paying tribute to the courageous schoolgirl. "Sincere condolences to Nicolae on the passing of Nicole," the teacher wrote.
"It was an honour and a pleasure to have known Nicole and been her teacher for several years. She was full of happiness and brought such joy and kindness to the school community. She will be sorely missed.
We will speak of her often and remember her with a smile. Codladh sámh, Rest in Peace, Nicole." Nicole's funeral is due to be held on Friday afternoon in the Church of the Holy Cross in Mahon followed by burial at St.
Michael’s Cemetery, Blackrock. In September, the local community on Mahon rallied behind Nicole and launched a fundraiser in a bid to raise enough money to give the Tudor family enough to turn Nicole’s funeral into a truly special day. So far, over €6,000 has been raised towards the €8,000 target.
