The trial of Scotty Lee Goble, charged with the murder of a Tyler business owner, has been postponed after a request from his defense team. Goble, from Corsicana, is accused of killing Heriberto “Eddie” Ramirez, 38, a co-owner of Junior’s Taqueria, on Oct. 11, 2024.
Ramirez was shot outside the restaurant at 3815 S SW Loop 323 in Tyler. According to our media partners at CBS19 , Goble's attorney, Matt Bingham, requested the postponement at a court hearing Thursday, citing large volume of evidence that needed to be reviewed. The prosecution did not object to the delay.
The attorneys have proposed a new trial date in July, with July 21 or 28 being considered. Pre-trial hearings will take place before the trial begins. Since his initial arrest, Goble has seen his bond increased multiple times.
Originally set at $500,000, it was raised to $3 million after Goble was indicted and violated bond conditions. Though his request for a bond reduction was denied last week, Goble posted the $3 million bond and was released from jail before his hearing Wednesday. Police documents state the shooting stemmed from an argument between Goble and restaurant staff.
The dispute, which began inside the restaurant over Goble’s and his family’s orders, eventually escalated outside. A witness reported that Goble yelled at the employees before placing his infant’s car seat on the sidewalk, continuing the argument. The witness stated Goble was knocked to the ground and about 10 feet away from Ramirez when he pulled out a gun and shot him.
The witness did not see any physical altercation at the time the gun was drawn. Goble told investigators he was worried for the safety of his children and himself. However, his statements were inconsistent, and he could not explain why the car seat was near the restaurant door when the shooting took place.
According to police, Ramirez was too far away from Goble to be a threat..
