Traveling exhibit ‘Beyond Van Gogh’ returns to Charleston with 400 additional works by Monet

Having sold more than 7 million tickets worldwide, traveling art exhibits "Beyond Van Gogh" and "Beyond Monet" bring viewers “beyond the brushstrokes.”

See the works of art by Vincent Van Gogh and Claude Monet come alive with an expanded version of the immersive traveling exhibit “Beyond Van Gogh,” which now includes “Beyond Monet.” Step outside the traditional museum space with these immersive exhibits , on display July 11-Sept. 1 at Festival Hall in downtown Charleston.

Having sold more than 7 million tickets worldwide, these gripping experiences bring viewers “beyond the brushstrokes.” The dual exhibition “Beyond Van Gogh" and "Beyond Monet" is coming to Charleston July-September. “Though there’s nothing that can replace the feeling of standing in front of an original Van Gogh or Monet — there is something phenomenal about being able to set foot in the paintings themselves,” said Fanny Curtat, art historian for the immersive exhibits.



Nearly 800 paintings, including the famous “Starry Night” by Van Gogh and “Water Lilies” series by Monet, will be projected in the exhibition space to enhance the striking magic of these timeless artists. The dual exhibition “Beyond Van Gogh" and "Beyond Monet" is coming to Charleston July-September. As viewers walk through the gardens and landscapes pictured in the artworks, astral swirls of flurrying colors cover the walls and floors.

The large scale of the experience alone allows for a deep appreciation of the hypnotic movement and varying light captured in the works. “You can almost see how each brushstroke was applied, how they used colors to achieve a certain effect,” Curtat said. “You can almost feel the intensity with which those paintings were made — especially in the case of Impressionist and Post-Impressionist artists like Monet and Van Gogh.

” These alluring exhibits provide a new access point into the art world for adults and kids alike. Step outside the traditional museum space with immersive exhibits "Beyond Van Gogh" and "Beyond Monet," which will be on display at Festival Hall in downtown Charleston. “Monet, like Van Gogh, is an especially wonderful fit for a project like this," she said.

“His work is about light, it’s about capturing and sharing a moment in time, a glimpse of a world made of shifting beauty.” Monet described his “Water Lilies” series as giving the feeling of another world without shores, without bearings, where one can simply take a moment, contemplate and share the intangible wonders that surround us, she said. And these dual exhibitions certainly aim to do just that.
