Ludhiana: Two travel agents have been booked by the police for another immigration fraud. While the accused — Amit Malhotra and his sister Veenu Malhotra — already have multiple immigration fraud FIRs registered against them, the siblings duo, in this case, duped a city resident of over Rs 17 lakh on the pretext of sending him to the UK. The FIR has been lodged on the statement of Karan Kumar, 24, of Ramesh Nagar of Tibba, who wished to go to the UK.
Besides Amit and his sister Veenu, the Model Town police have also booked their aide Karun Kumar, who was the manager at Globalway Immigration firm. Karan said that he had contacted Globalway Immigration in Jan 2023 to arrange a work visa for the UK. The accused took Rs 17.
60 lakh from him in different installments. However, after getting money, the accused did not follow up on the same. When Kartan asked them to return his money, the accused refused.
Thereafter, on April 27, this year, he filed a complaint against the accused. Investigating officer from Model Town police station, ASI Seeta Ram said that an inquiry was conducted by the police following which the police registered a case against Amit, his sister Veenu and their manager Karun under sections 420 (punishment for cheating) and 120-B (Criminal conspiracy) of the IPC. The ASI added that the accused already have multiple immigration fraud FIRs against them.
Veenu and her brother Amit were arrested by Model Town Police on Sept 6 for allegedly duping several people on the pretext of sending them abroad. Earlier on Aug 12, Hardeep Singh of Dhuri of Sangrur and his wife Amandeep Kaur had climbed atop a water tank near Ishmeet Chowk accusing the sibling duo of duping them of Rs 10 lakh. Several other people, from different areas and districts, had also joined the protest and had claimed that the accused duped them too.
As the police had received multiple complaints against the accused, several FIRs were lodged against them. Later on, the district administration cancelled the firm’s licence. The police probe had also found that initially, the firm had arranged visas for their customers.
However, once they established their name in the business market, they started grabbing the entire money and in many cases, the accused had not even applied for the visa after accepting money from the clients.
