A trainee paramedic missed his own graduation ceremony to help a patient in cardiac arrest

Sam Brooks, 27, from Reading, had just completed the UK Operations course with REACT Disaster Response when he was alerted through the GoodSam app. Instead of attending the end-of-course celebration, Mr Brooks immediately responded to the call. He checked in with his training team before rushing to the address.

When Mr Brooks returned to the venue, the graduation ceremony had ended, and his graduation T-shirt was already on its way to REACT's Wiltshire HQ. REACT's chief executive Toby Wicks said: "Sam showed what it truly means to be a humanitarian.

"His actions were a powerful example of the selfless commitment we are privileged to see in every volunteer." The UK Operations course equips volunteers to respond to various crises, building their teamwork, resilience, and readiness under pressure. REACT was formed in the aftermath of a deadly earthquake in Kathmandu, Nepal in 2015, by a team of British Army veterans.

The charity was established by General Sir Nick Parker, former Commander of British Land Forces, to provide action in times of disaster. Mr Brooks' actions are a testament to this mission, demonstrating the vital role responders play in providing swift, skilled support to communities across the UK in times of need..
