The Nederlandse Spoorwegen (NS) has issued a warning about significant disruptions to train services around Amsterdam and Schiphol this weekend due to scheduled track maintenance. The work, which will take place from Friday through Monday, January 13, will reduce the number of tracks available near Schiphol Airport, resulting in fewer trains and changes to departure platforms. Additional maintenance will occur on Saturday and Sunday between Amsterdam Muiderpoort and Weesp.

According to the NS, almost no trains will operate on this route during these days. Travelers are advised to detour via Duivendrecht and to consult a travel planner in advance. “ProRail is carrying out maintenance on tracks and stations in Amsterdam and the surrounding area throughout the year,” an NS spokesperson said.

“This maintenance is necessary to ensure the safety and reliability of the railway network.” Further disruptions are expected later this month and in February. In the last weekend of January and the first two weekends of February, train services to and from Schiphol will be heavily affected.

Next weekend, train traffic between Haarlem and Amsterdam Sloterdijk will be halted due to additional maintenance work. Travelers using Schiphol Airport or routes near Amsterdam are encouraged to plan their journeys carefully to avoid inconvenience. The NS has recommended checking their website or app for the most up-to-date travel information during these periods.
