A woman who died in hospital from sepsis after being admitted just two days earlier had a "history of drug use". Jenna Hanley, of Withins Drive in Breightmet, died last month shortly after arriving in Royal Bolton Hospital. She was admitted just two days before, after suffering from shortness of breath and coughing for five days.
An inquest into the 45-year-old's death opened on Friday (April 4) at Bolton Coroners' Court. Police coroners' officer Robert Struttman, said that she had a "history of drug use" dating back to when she was 15 years old. Mr Struttman outlined the circumstances of her death.
Before her admission to Royal Bolton Hospital, he said that Ms Hanley was "believed to be taking illicit drugs". What kind of drugs she was taking was not specified. She arrived at the hospital on March 15, 2025, following a "five day history of increasing shortness of breath and coughing".

uk Mr Struttman said that Ms Hanley was diagnosed with pneumonia, but "despite multiple days of treatment" she continued to deteriorate. She was then placed on end of life care. Ms Hanley passed away in hospital on March 17, 2025 and her body was identified by her friend of ten years.
Police attended and confirmed that there were no suspicious circumstances surrounding her death. Coroner Stephen Teasdale formally opened the inquest and asked for evidence and witness statements to be given to him by May 17, 2025.
The case was adjourned and a full inquest listed to start on June 12, 2025 at 10am..
