A devastating road accident occurred along the Owo-Ikare highway in Ondo State, resulting in the deaths of 13 passengers. According to a statement by Samuel Ibitoye, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) sector commander in Ondo, the accident involved a fabric-laden vehicle and a bus conveying 14 passengers. “A total of 14 people were involved out of which 13 were burnt beyond recognition while only one was rescued alive with serious injuries,” Ibitoye stated on Saturday.
Eyewitness accounts, he noted, indicated that the bus had a tyre burst, leading to a loss of control and a “head-on collision” with the fabric-laden vehicle. Ibitoye reported that FRSC personnel, police officers, and firefighters quickly arrived at the scene for rescue operations.
The injured victim was taken to the Federal Medical Centre in Owo. Ibitoye further advised drivers to “exercise patience on the roads and passionately maintain their vehicles while passengers are encouraged to speak out against dangerous driving because road safety is a concern of all.”.
