
In a tragic event in February 2025, an avalanche struck a village in Uttarakhand's Chamoli district, where a Border Roads Organisation (BRO) camp was situated. Of the 54 personnel and laborers present, 46 were rescued, while eight lost their lives, according to the government in a report to Parliament. Minister of State for Defence, Sanjay Seth, revealed the ongoing efforts to prevent such occurrences, including regular safety exercises for BRO personnel operating in high-risk areas.
His response came amidst queries about the personnel casualties and missing reports in the Lok Sabha. The avalanche occurred near an EPC contractor camp linked with BRO in Mana village. Despite the tragedy, a coordinated effort involving various armed forces and disaster response teams led to the successful rescue and support operation.
