Dorset Council has confirmed that key parts of the construction, including the A350 filter lane, the junction and drainage improvements, are all progressing according to plan. Temporary traffic measures have been in place for the last six weeks to ensure safety during these roadworks. Four-way traffic signals at Hill Top Roundabout will remain until Wednesday, April 30 to facilitate ongoing drainage work.

Drivers can expect a brief respite as the temporary traffic lights will be removed during the Easter bank holiday weekend from Friday, April 18, to Monday, April 21. Between Thursday, May 1 and Monday, June 9, two-way traffic signals will manage traffic flow between Sunrise and Hilltop Roundabouts, allowing for the construction of drainage systems and access roads. Once the new access road is mostly completed, the traffic management measures on the A350 will no longer be necessary, marking a significant milestone for the project.

The construction team is committed to protecting the environment, implementing measures to safeguard local wildlife. A special fence has been set up to keep badgers safe and prevent delays caused by their presence during construction. Additionally, the team is reusing materials from the roadworks to expedite development and save costs.

Archaeological studies at the site have uncovered evidence of an ancient settlement from the Iron Age, extending into the Roman period. Items found include pottery, a horse harness ring and a Neolithic flint arrowhead, underscoring the historical significance of the site. Councillor Jon Andrews, cabinet member for place services at Dorset Council, said: "This development shows our commitment to sustainability and innovation.

"The Blandford waste management centre will be an important resource for Dorset, and we’re proud to see progress that takes care of both people and the environment." Phase two of the main construction works is expected to commence soon, with the team exploring ways to improve project efficiency without compromising quality. Dorset Council says it is committed to completing the project safely and to a high standard.
