Traffic had to be stopped in the middle of a main road last week as a "group of boys" set off fireworks. The incident took place last Wednesday, December 11, outside the Eminence wedding venue on Chorley Old Road. Following a wedding which had taken place at the venue, a small section of the wedding party set off fireworks , causing traffic to stop.
Eminence says that the incident was nothing to do with the venue - but staff had intervened. The venue said it has added a clause into its contract stating fireworks are prohibited on the premises and outside. It is illegal to set off fireworks in the street or in a public place.
A spokeswoman for the venue said: "We had nothing to do with it, they started these fireworks after they left our building, I was furious and went out there to stop them. "They were young boys who were doing it. We have added a clause into our contract that nobody can do this inside or outside our building, we have never had it before, this is the first time.
"It was a few boys, they were a bit rowdy, the rest of the wedding party were fine and were just as amazed. "We had nothing to do with it, we don't reinforce anything like that to happen and in the future we would call the police ourselves." "We have put everything in place, hopefully we will never get anything like that." Cllr Garry Veevers said: "Lots of fireworks were set off in the street, traffic had to stop. "But to be fair to the owners, they have done a really good job so far and have done all they can with the local community to fit in.
This happened when everyone left the venue. "There were lots of young males who left the venue and started letting off lots of fireworks. It stopped the traffic all in the road.
"The owners said they can't stop what people do once they are leaving, but they have some responsibility to stop antisocial behaviour such as this. "What happened is quite concerning.".
