After what seems like an eternity between generations, the new Toyota LandCruiser Prado has taken back its title of Australia’s favourite large SUV in November and set an all-time monthly record. With 3590 deliveries, the Prado 250 Series pushed ahead of the top-selling Ford Everest (2737) in the eleventh month of the year, though the Ford still leads year to date (YTD) with 24,018 vs 7115 registrations. The Prado also placed third in the overall standings for the month behind the Toyota RAV4 (5526) and the Ford Ranger (4981), and narrowly ahead of the Toyota HiLux (2572).

Further, Toyota’s rejuvenated 4WD held a whopping 28.5 per cent of the large SUV segment under $80,000 in November’s VFACTS industry sales report. That was well ahead of the 21.

8 per cent held by the Everest and saw it dominate a field of over 20 competitors that includes other popular SUVs like the Isuzu MU-X (1206), Kia Sorento (714), Subaru Outback (734) and Toyota Kluger (515). 100s of new car deals are available through CarExpert right now. The Prado’s November volume is more than the nameplate has achieved for the entire year to the end of October, as the Japanese giant was forced to wait over a year for the new model to reach showrooms following its reveal in August 2023. The result is also 500 units up on the previous record set last November (3090 units).

It’s likely the Prado’s strong November result also contributed to Toyota’s overall market share increase in November, at 20.8 per cent for the month and 19.8 per cent YTD – compared to 18.

7 per cent and 17.5 per cent respectively, despite a 2.1 per cent drop in volume for November.

Toyota’s dominance in November was further evidenced by it having three of the top five sellers for the month, with the aforementioned RAV4 in first, the Prado in third, and the HiLux ute back in fourth. Further back, the LandCruiser line (incl. 70 Series and 300 Series wagons) finished in ninth with 1899 registrations.

Earlier this month Toyota Australia said it’s expecting 27,000 Prado 250 Series units to hit local roads in the coming 12 months, equating to a monthly average of 2250 units between November 2024 and November 2025. That would see it best the nameplate’s all-time yearly sales record of 21,299 units set in 2021. The brand also revealed it had already taken more than 17,000 orders for the new Prado before it even arrived in Australia, and would be implementing a 12-month supply of stock for each of its dealers to avoid lengthy wait times as experienced with the outgoing generation.
