ST. LOUIS — The Tower Grove South restaurants Black Sheep Whiskey + Wine and Three Little Monkeys will permanently close this weekend, owners Zach and Mary Rice announced Wednesday. The closure includes Mama 2’s Biscuits, the brunch concept inside Black Sheep.

The final day for the restaurants is Sunday (Sept. 22). “We were able to survive the pandemic, renovations, rebranding, reopening, creating new concepts and opening another location — we brought new life to the street and completed our restaurant family,” the Rices said in their announcement .

“Unfortunately, we can’t sustain (it) any longer.” Black Sheep, with Mama 2’s, opened in November 2021 at 3153 Morganford Road. The Rices had previously operated the restaurant Three Monkeys during its final few years at that address.

Three Little Monkeys, a pizzeria, opened in July 2023 at 3172 Morganford. “We know we aren’t alone,” the closing announcement said. “We share this struggle with many other small businesses, especially in the hospitality industry, all around the county.

The costs of operations are extremely high & unforgiving, all while the economy & dining habits have changed and no longer align with what we need to open the doors every day. We wish it were different.” Black Sheep will be open regular hours through Saturday.

Mama 2’s will be open for brunch inside Black Sheep Saturday and Sunday. Three Little Monkeys will be open for takeout and delivery only through Sunday..
