Fences cut, trees burnt and wildlife disturbed at nature reserve in Kendal.

South Lakes Police have been 'saddened' to receive regular reports of antisocial behaviour and criminal damage in the vicinity of Mintsfeet Nature Area and along the Kent to Sandy Bottoms. This site is being developed as a greenspace, with operators hoping to open it soon. In the last few days, police have received reports of fences being cut to permit access to dog walkers.

These dogs, then turned loose, go on to disturb nesting birds and undermine the efforts of the team to attract, secure and preserve wildlife. Officers have also been made aware of saplings being pulled out and placed on bonfires. South Lakes Police said: "On all counts, totally unacceptable - We will be increasing patrols activity, the site operators upping their security and we will deal with any offences arising.

"Enquiries into these incidents very much ongoing!".
