The Kansas City Chiefs’ quest for perfection hit a roadblock on Sunday as they fell 30-21 to the Buffalo Bills in a high-stakes AFC clash that lived up to the hype. The Chiefs fought their way to a 9-0 record with a series of narrow victories but ran out of late-game magic against Josh Allen and the Bills. Allen delivered a dagger just before the two-minute warning, breaking loose for a highlight reel 26-yard run on fourth down to seal the game.
His touchdown run extended the Bills' lead to two scores, and Patrick Mahomes' last-ditch effort was cut short by an interception, ending the Chiefs' undefeated run. A loss never feels good, but CBS color analyst Tony Romo thinks it might benefit the Chiefs in the long run. "There's never a positive when you lose.
But there is one. If they would have wrapped up the No. 1 seed so early, there's a chance they wouldn't have played their best football in the playoffs," Romo said .
"This could be a benefit possibly to have them play all the way throughout the year and keep staying in phase. And that guy (Patrick Mahomes) will have something to say before the end of this year has played out." © Mark Konezny-Imagn Images Mahomes finished the matchup with 196 yards, three touchdowns and a pair of interceptions.
Buffalo has now won four straight regular-season matchups against the Chiefs. However, the Chiefs have won the last three postseason matchups between the squads, including a 27-24 victory in last year's AFC Championship.
