Legendary singer Tony Hadley has no intention of retiring as he announces his upcoming tour later this year. The 64-year-old rose to fame in the 1980s with Spandau Ballet, who achieved eight UK top 10 albums and ten UK top 10 hits. Since leaving the band in 2017, Hadley has continued to perform, with no signs of slowing down.
Joining chef James Martin on his Saturday Morning cooking show, Hadley discussed his enduring career and future performances. He revealed plans to perform classic swing music with a live band on The Christmas Big Band Tour. James Martin noted: "You managed to keep your fan base, not just in the UK, but you're travelling all over the place.
Australia and Europe." He continued: "You've got to pinch yourself, haven't you, because of longevity. You went from nothing to bang", Lancs Live .
Hadley reflected on his early days in music, when hard work was essential in the absence of social media. He also expressed his lifelong passion for swing music, which began in childhood. He explained: "It's just the power of it.
It just sounds absolutely fantastic. Doing the swing stuff is there's something about it. It seems to be connecting with the audience.
"I mean, apart from, you know Michael Bublé, I don't think it's very many singers, certainly not my generation that are doing that kind of stuff, I just love it." In a light-hearted exchange with James, Tony quipped about their friends retiring, saying: "It's really kind of weird because you know a lot of your mates sort of saying 'oh, we're retiring' and stuff like that," which led to laughter between them. Tony then emphatically stated, "I can't think of anything worse," before sharing his admiration for Tony Bennett's enduring career: "You know, Tony Bennett, I saw at The Royal Albert Hall, and he was 92, and I'm just like, 'that's what I want to do'.
