Prolific actor Val Kilmer has died at 65 after battling throat cancer for many years, according to several news outlets.

(WGHP) -- Prolific actor Val Kilmer has died at 65 after battling throat cancer for many years, according to several news outlets. He is most well known for starring in Oliver Stone's "The Doors" as the iconic frontman Jim Morrison and as Bruce Wayne in 1995's "Batman Forever," as well as the iconic Iceman role in "Top Gun."Actor Val Kilmer wears a suit and stares at camera in Los Angeles in 1986.

(Photo by Jerod Harris/Getty Images)Kilmer also starred in many classic films of the 1980s and 1990s such as "Tombstone," "Heat" and "Real Genius."In 2021, he reprised his "Top Gun" role in "Top Gun: Maverick." Due to his throat cancer, he could not speak at the time.

His break-out role was in the 1984 spy comedy "Top Secret!"The cause of death was pneumonia, his daughter, Mercedes Kilmer, told The New York Times. Kilmer was diagnosed with throat cancer a decade ago and later recovered, she said. Kilmer used a voice box to communicate during promotional appearances for a documentary on his life in 2021.

His children were associate producers on the film, according to the New York Times..
