PHOENIX — Arizona Superintendent of Public Instruction Tom Horne said Tuesday that artificial intelligence could help revolutionize how Arizona's students are educated. During a speech before state lawmakers, the superintendent said his agency will be encouraging the use of Khanmigo, an AI-powered tool developed by nonprofit Khan Academy. Khanmigo is not intended to substitute teachers, Horne said, but rather help provide tutoring support.
"It gives them the equivalent of two assistants to do the grunt work so they can concentrate on creative teaching," Horne said in his speech. Khanmigo was recently featured on a "60 Minutes" segment and the Khan Academy has been working with ASU Preparatory Academy to develop a "world school." Horne said $1.
5 million has been spent providing Khanmigo up to 100,000 students in Arizona. More students could be covered at a cost of $25 per pupil. "This is the future, and we are making the tools available today," Horne told lawmakers.
