AUGUSTA, Ga. — Fargo golfer Tom Hoge's wild ride in his third Masters tournament continued on Saturday at Augusta National Golf Club. Hoge carded his first sub-par round in the tournament with a 2-under 70.
Hoge rebounded from a rough first 10 holes to record five birdies in the final eight holes. Hoge is tied with three other players in 17th place at 2-under heading into Sunday's final round. He will be paired with Davis Thompson with a noon CDT tee time.
Rory McIlroy is 12-under and leads Bryson DeChambeau by two shots heading into Sunday. McIlroy and DeChambeau are Sunday's final pairing. Corey Conners is third at 8-under and Patrick Reed and Ludvig Oberg are tied for fourth at 6-under.
Four golfers are tied for sixth, four are tied for 10th and three are tied for 14th. Hoge opened his Saturday round par, birdie, par, but then made bogey on three of the next six holes to go out in 2-over 38. He then made bogey on No.
10. But then the fireworks began. Hoge birdied Nos.
11, 12 and 13 to reach par. After pars at the 14th and 15th, he birdied No. 16, made par at No.
17 and closed with his fifth birdie of the back nine at the 18th. It was a familiar script for Hoge. He made just six pars in his opening round on Thursday.
He made seven birdies but blunted any progress up the leaderboard with two double bogeys and three bogeys. He finished at even-par 72. Much the same in Friday's second round.
Hoge made three birdies on the front nine but also two bogeys to reach the turn at 1-under 35. He reached 2-under with a birdie and five pars in the first six holes, but closed at 72 again when he made bogey on two of the final three holes. Hoge played his first Masters in 2022 after earning his first PGA Tour victory at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro Am in February 2022.
Hoge finished tied for 39th in the 2022 Masters at 7-over 295. At the 2023 Masters, Hoge shot 74-74 and missed the cut, and he didn't make the tournament field in 2024..
