As reported by TheDirect , producer Basil Iwanyk confirmed during an interview done for the 10th anniversary of John Wick that the Splinter Cell film is now dead, citing that the team couldn’t get it to a state that would do the beloved franchise justice.

Just couldn’t get it right, script-wise, budget-wise. But it was going to be great,” Iwanyk explained, “We had a million different versions of it, but it was going to be hardcore and awesome. That’s one of the ones that got away, which is really sad.

Following its announcement, the state of the film was left up in the air with no further word on its status, until now. While the news of its cancellation is certain to disappoint Splinter Cell fans, at least they can still look forward to Netflix’s upcoming animated series Splinter Cell: Deathwatch , which stars Liev Schreiber as Fisher and is set to release sometime in 2025.
Ubisoft also has other movie adaptations on the way, with the recent announcement that its Watch Dogs live-action film has finally wrapped 10 years after its initial conception. A live-action Assassin’s Creed series and a movie based on Tom Clancy’s The Division are also currently in development by Netflix.
