Now it’s finally time to hang up my puffer jackets and winter coats, I’ve been on the lookout for the perfect lightweight jacket to see me through spring. It would be wishful thinking to hope that I won’t see any rain or a single digit temperature again until autumn, and I spend a lot of time outdoors walking the dog. So for me, the best spring jackets are waterproof and still warm, whilst being thin and lightweight enough to roll up and tuck in a bag when the temperature rises.
When I spotted this Nanford Women's Padded Overhead Jacket at Tog 24 which checked off all my boxes, I had to give it a whirl and see if it really would be my new go-to jacket, especially now it’s on sale down from £80 to £56. The bright orange shade was perfect for bringing a little colour into my daily dog walking look, and made a nice change from all the blacks, greys and greens you usually see in waterproof jackets. I also loved the diamond quilted pattern, not to mention the fact it was an easy to wear pop over design that would be quick to whip on and off as the weather changed. What really sold me, though, was the fact that it’s water repellent enough to withstand light showers – which I inadvertently tested out in a downpour and can confirm I didn’t get soaked through.
Spring is notoriously unpredictable when it comes to the temperatures, and the Nanford Women's Padded Overhead Jacket is both windproof and has light insulation, which gets bonus points for being made from recycled plastic bottles. Every time I’ve worn this it’s been just the right amount of layering – I’ve yet to get uncomfortably hot, or feel too cold in it. The press studs at the neck are also handy for layering, and it has an oversized hood with elastic binding to keep it secure around your face and neck.
The shaped hem is also incredibly flattering , and every single time I’ve worn this jacket, someone has complimented me on how nice it is. Although I took a size up to give me more layering space, I actually would recommend sticking to your usual size, as there’s more than enough room for a cosy knit underneath. It’s available in sizes 8 to 24, and although it only has one review right now, it’s a five star one saying: “Love this jacket, it's so good for going out for walks and so light weight but still cosy.
” There’s no word on how long the Nanford Women's Padded Overhead Jacket will be on sale, but if you want to nab it with the 30% it’s better to do it sooner rather than later. Elsewhere, the Columbia Paracutie Cropped Cargo Windbreaker in Buttermilk is £65, and not only does it nail the butter yellow colour trend of the moment, but it has a lightweight waterproof design that’s easy to fold up and tuck into a bag.
