Keep your chin up and shoulders back, and just remember that whatever you’ve got going on today, you’ve got this.

Today’s NYT Connections hints and answers are coming right up. How To Play Connections Connections is a free, popular New York Times daily word game. You get a new puzzle at midnight every day.

You can play on the NYT website or Games app. You’re presented with a grid of 16 words. Your task is to arrange them into four groups of four by figuring out the links between them.

The groups could be things like items you can click, names for research study participants or words preceded by a body part. There’s only one solution for each puzzle, and you’ll need to be careful when it comes to words that might fit into more than one category. You can shuffle the words to perhaps help you see links between them.

The yellow group is usually the easiest to figure out, blue and green fall in the middle, and the purple group is usually the most difficult one. The purple group often involves wordplay.

Select four words you think go together and press Submit. If you make a guess and you’re incorrect, you’ll lose a life. If you’re close to having a correct group, you might see a message telling you that you’re one word away from getting it right, but you’ll still need to figure out which one to swap.

This is your final warning! Today’s Connections answers are...

Yellow group — get excited, with "up" (AMP, FIRE, HYPE, PSYCH) Green group — kinds of shoes (FLAT, MULE, PUMP, PSYCH) Blue group — legislative roles (CHAIR, LEADER, SPEAKER, WHIP) Purple group — name homophones (DUG, MATTE, MIC, PEAT) I didn’t get a perfect game, but I’ll take three straight wins for my personal record. While there were multiple options for the yellows, I felt that AMP would go with MIC and SPEAKER, so I started with a guess of PUMP, FIRE, HYPE and PSYCH to no avail. That guess left me one away from a group so I knew I was on the right track.

I didn't want to brute force that group so I turned my attention elsewhere. I realized that there are different kinds of SPEAKER than one that's used for amplification, so I figured out the blues. I didn't see anything else, so I took a bit of a gamble by trying the yellows but swapping out PUMP for AMP.

That worked! I then suspected that MULE, PUMP and SLIDE were types of kicks (hi, I play lots of video games), so I tried pairing those with PEAT, just to see what would happen. I was one away from a group and after I thought about things a little more, I had the greens all wrapped up. That left the purple group, for which I did not figure out the connection (but really should have), for the win.

That’s all there is to it for today’s Connections clues and answers. Be sure to check my blog for hints and the solution for Wednesday’s game if you need them. P.
